The Impro Theatre School is the home of Narrative Improv in Los Angeles.  We focus on teaching artful storytelling.  We value truth in the moment and allow comedy to arise out of it.

The Impro Theatre School offers a wide variety of classes that set you up for success in performing narrative improv. Our instructors provide a welcome, safe place for students of every age, background, and profession to discover the joys of improv.

We have a wide variety of elective courses designed to focus on different applications of Narrative Improv.  They will challenge to take your Improv skills to the next level.

Try one of our Genre Workshops and learn to improvise in the styles from our main company’s “UnScripted” series (Jane Austen, Tennessee Williams, Anton Chekhov, and more!). 

Below is an outline of the structure of the school from Basic Level to Advanced.

IMPRO BASICS – 12-week workshops
Not only for the beginner but for those new to Impro
Students can repeat Basics pending instructor recommendation
IMPRO C.O.R.E. CURRICULUM – 12-week workshops
Must have improv experience and/or audition into
Physical CORE
Bring your best actor to the improv stage. Create scenes from nonverbal offers. Posture. Movement. Emotion. Senses. Stage picture.
Story CORE – character and relationship
Story arises out of character and relationship. Most improvisers follow plot, but at Impro we believe that if you go deeper into character and relationship plot simply happens.
Story CORE – objectives and arc
Sustain and deepen improvised stories with character objectives and throughlines.
Genre CORE
The tropes and motifs of great writers teach us how to tell compelling stories of any style.
Prerequisite: Impro CORE, teacher recommendation or placement auditions.

Theatresports Performance Classes – Short Form Competitive Improv
Prerequisite: Impro Basics
–LATS Workshop – 12 weeks
Prerequisite: Impro CORE, LATS: 101 Games, or placement auditions
–LATS Performance Group
 Narrative Improv Performance Classes – Modeled after the company shows
Prerequisite: CORE curriculum, audition or teacher recommendation
–Narrative Workshop – 5 months
–Performance Lab Ensemble – Prerequisite Narrative Workshop – 5 months
