LATheatresports™is improvisational theatre performed as a sporting event. 2 teams of improvisors go head to head, challenging each other in various types of improvised scenes. From comedic to dramatic to musical. Each scene is scored by judges and one team at the end of the evening will reign victorious. All scenes performed are created entirely on the spot based on audience suggestions, so be prepared to get involved. Root for your favorite team, boo and hiss the judges or just sit back and watch the playful mayhem. Nothing is scripted or rehearsed so anything can happen. Everything is based on your suggestion!
LATheatresports™ was originally founded by Forrest Brakeman, Ellen Idelson and Dan O’Connor (Artistic Director of Impro Theatre) in 1988. Most of Impro Theatre’s ensemble originally got their start in Theatresports™ and find it to be an invaluable training for actors, writers and improvisers alike. Impro Theatre invites you to come see what all the shouting and pointing is about!
Theatresports™ was created by Keith Johnstone at the Royal Court Theatre in London and at the University of Calgary
“Everybody knows two things. You can only learn by failing. You should have a good attitude about it.” -Keith Johnstone
